I fell in love with merino wool in the 1970s, wrapped in a bright yellow beanie and scarf my mum knitted for me on our first family ski trip to the Snowy Mountains. I still have her spinning wheel. It sits in my home as a reminder of where this all began.

Decades later, when I returned to skiing in my 50s after years of raising a family, I expected the base layers to have evolved. Instead, I found the same problems: unisex fits that didn't work for women's bodies, dull colours, itchy fabrics, and uninspired designs. I wanted base layers that felt beautiful against my skin, that fit properly, that had personality. I knew other women wanted this too.

So I created Kunama The Label: 100% Australian merino wool base layers designed for women who ski, hike, and adventure with style.

The name 'Kunama' means 'Big Snow' in the language of the Ngarigo people, the Traditional Custodians of Australia's high country. With the blessing of the Ngarigo TKNIC Corporation and Elders, we carry this name forward as a tribute to the land where my ski journey began. The Australian Alps that shaped my love for mountains, wool, and the spirit of adventure. We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the Snowy Mountains, the Ngarigo people, and pay our respects to Elders past, present, and emerging.
